  1. @bojans yes you usually get the same boat at regionals and Nationals
  2. @SN2001james on older vehicles and boats there are two power sources for the ignition coil one is 12v during crank and the other runs through a resistor that knocks the voltage down to around 6v when you are running. They found that ignition components lasted a lot longer that way. My guess would be that you have a broken wire in the 12v start circuit to the ignition coil. Not sure about the exact wiring on that boat. You may want to try the forum over on planet nautique. Those guys know it all.

  4. I apologize that was a bit of a knee jerk reaction. Your post initially made it sound like you were considering not coming to at least look at the boat. I can understand it is a long trip.
  5. My Father bought this boat from a gentleman in Possum kingdom who bought it new. It was well maintained with low hours. My Father bought it knowing that I could convert it to ZO as I have with many other 196's. I ordered the kit from Tim white at inboard solutions. Since the install the single puck ZO has had no issues and the boat runs great. My Father has had new tires installed and wheel bearings greased in preparation for this travel. He also held this boat for your buddy with no deposit and turned away another perspective buyer while your buddy sold his Malibu. This due diligence should have been done a lot earlier in this process. The fact my father held the boat for your buddy and offered for you two to stay in his house goes to show his honest character. This post is rather insulting. After going out of his way the least you can do is make the trip and look at the boat. Can I vouch for the boat? Yes it is as advertised. Will he sell the boat to your buddy after being insulted? I don't know. He really hated seeing this boat go but I am moving to Granbury and selling my ZO 196 this fall so that we can purchase a newer boat. Selling a boat in the summer makes more sense than in the winter. As far as being negotiable not really. No pressing reason to sell. Thanks Travis Torley.
  6. Made a chair out of the same era Mach 1
  7. For reference I am sitting next to dads ski and I was born in 1988. I think it was a little earlier than 84-85. Dad spent about three decades on that ski.

  11. @Vl782 if you are interested I have a buddy that is going to list his 2004 moomba outback as soon as the covid stuff is under control. It only has like 200 hours on it. The big down side is it is carb not fuel Injected. Does have a wakeboard version of PP and tower
  12. It was a perfect storm for me. Russia and Saudi both increasing oil production coupled with corona lowering demand on crude. Since the majority of my business was oilfield related I am pretty screwed. Back to mechanic along side the highways to make ends meet for awhile.
  13. With most of my customers being oilfield the $30 barrel crude price has me far more concerned.
  14. @Ski_Dad my guess just based on being around both plates a fair bit is that they needed the extra 1/8 in. Of material between holes for the extra strength. In my opinion the feather frame is really meant for the low end skis. If running the course at 30+ mph I would recommend the change to the aluminum plates. Also would recommend the Radar screws for your bindings as they have a much larger head to displace the load.
  15. I had an old mechanic tell me it doesn't matter what box you have it's the tools inside that make your money.
  16. Check out the liners fluid motion sells. I just got a pair after a two year liner search. So far they are great
  17. @brooks can't find it on Google play can you add it there for us non apple users
  18. Usually get a ski every other year. Ski around 200 sets a year. By the end of the second year I feel like it has lost some pop. Heavy skier 215 into -38@36 most sets
  19. Maybe that is the way the promo thing goes. Instead of incentives for an Individual it is to ski clubs and ski schools. Offer a package where you get a reduced price but have to sign a contract for a certain number of boats over a five year period and are required to take it to a certain number of tournaments per year.
  20. The way I like to frame it to people is you just bought a brand new Corvette or Porsche. I want to take it on a 800 mile trip and if it gets damaged I will have it touched up. You going to give it to me for $400-$500? I am just saying it would take more than that to get me to risk my personal asset that I paid retail for. Sorry for taking the thread off topic.
  21. @Horton and @dave2ball I agree and the LOC did pay to repair all the damage and it was done at a professional shop. Now that the boat has a few years on it you can see every repair that was made to the gel coat. It has to be worth less now than a boat that was never damaged. Remember in this scenario we are asking people to let their personal boat be used. Most don't buy new boats very often so they will have to live with the repairs for years to come.
  22. @Horton the one year I hauled the promo boat to and from tournaments it left one tournament without damage. Not sure how you calculate in scratched decals/hull and bent Bimini..... Part of the promo issue is that a lot of tournament people don't respect the fact it isnt their 75k boat.
  23. Loved the 86 American skier Advance I grew up skiing behind.
  24. My question to the boat manufacturer is where is the incentive for the promo guy? I lease a boat for $3500 and get to put 100 hours on it. At the end of the day the dealer takes it back and sells it. The next year I pay $3500 and get to put 100 hours on the boat. They are giving this guy a new boat and losing money on it but he has no reason to push their brand or attempt to sell it himself. Why not have dates written in the lease that if the dealer gets a deposit on the boat before Sept. 1 your lease for the next year is $1500 Oct. 1 it's $2000 and so on. Actually give the guy with the boat a reason to sell it. The current structure doesn't seem equitable for anyone and that is why I think you see promo people quitting and dealers not looking for new promo people
