Interesting article. No doubt Docs see dollar bills when ordering higher end tests, not all but some. No doubt patients have been influenced to think a MRI or any other higher end test is the answer to what bothers them.
When in truth many issues that are bothersome at the time can be fixed with PT, etc.
Oddly I had labreal tear in my hip. Went in order of x-ray, ortho visit, MRI. Then the doc said PT. I did PT with no results. Being that I worked with the surgeon I asked him how often PT actually prevented surgery for my issue. He had had 1 patient out of hundreds or maybe thousands. All that to say that sometimes PT is what is needed, other times it is just the hoops doctors need to jump through for insurance.
But from my low end of the medical field view (2 year degree baby) I would tend to think many back issues could be fixed via PT.
